Optimized Barrel Packaging for Bitumen Transport
Metal drums are the most widely used packaging solution for bitumen storage and transportation. These barrels must be positioned near bitumen filling equipment to ensure efficient operations.
Bitumen drums come in various sizes, differing in capacity, height, and sheet thickness. Standard metal drums typically have a body thickness of 0.6 mm. Based on height, drums are categorized as:
- Long barrels: 89 ± 3 cm, commonly used across various markets.
- Short barrels: 68 ± 3 cm, heavier and more expensive.
Weight and Capacity of Bitumen Barrels
- New short barrels weigh approximately 150 kg but are costlier than long barrels.
- Long barrels are the preferred choice in global markets, carrying around 180 kg of bitumen.
Container Loading Capacity for Bitumen Barrels
- A 20-foot container accommodates 110 barrels (without pallets) and 80 barrels (with pallets).
- A 40-foot container carries 137 barrels (without pallets) and 150 barrels (with pallets).
- Pallet carrying capacity:
- Without pallets: ~115 barrels
- With palletizer: ~90 barrels
To ensure quality and compliance with global standards, we do not recommend second-hand barrels due to potential transportation risks. Using new barrels enhances safety and reduces logistical complications.
